Hermès "Qalamdan" Silk Chiffon 90 cm Scarf by Catherine Baschet, 1990. The "Qalamdan" pattern depicts various qalamdans which were Persian decorative boxes used to store pens and other keepsakes. The qalamdan, which was seen as a status symbol among the wealthy and elite, were mainly produced in Iran and Turkey between the 18th and 19th centuries by highly skilled Persian artists. Every design was intricately painted and lacquered for their specific owner, commonly adorned with floral, lush vegetation and animal motifs. This extremely rare and highly sought after design was made by famous artist, Catherine Baschet and was one of many of her popular and colorful scarves made for Hermès. Baschet became known for her illustrations depicting ethnic and worldly designs in vibrant and bright colorations. This extremely rare color way comes in a deep orange, red and striking blue printed on 100% silk chiffon. Great vintage condition with almost no signs of wear.
