Walnut marble-top serpentine commode, Italian, circa 1880, with shaped marble top over three serpentine drawers, above a foliate carved apron, on elaborately carved whorl feet--all hand carved. The piece retains all of its original gilt bronze hardware and key. The real show-stopper is the exceptional and rare antique marble top; it is truly kaleidoscopic. The piece has a rich, glowing patina and it has stage presence. Its voluptuous and graceful form make it perfect for an entry hall with a mirror hung above, and it shows beautifully from all angles. In excellent antique condition, with some age-related minor fading. Other signs of wear, such as typical small marks and dings have been attended to by a professional restorer who has cleaned, touched-up, and polished it. It is now ready to be placed in the finest interior or showroom.
