Wedgwood Majolica 'Vine & Strawberry' plate, English, with a large central green grape leaf, purple grapes, strawberries and blossom on a cobalt ground (rare coloration). Impressed marks to reverse: 'WEDGWOOD' and Wedgwood date code for 1878.

For 30 years, we have been among the world's preeminent specialists in fine antique majolica.

From its introduction in circa 1875, production of the 'Vine & Strawberry' endured throughout the remainder of Wedgwood's M-Series years (circa 1868-1880) and the K-Series years (1880 through circa 1888), but as Victoria Bergesen observes,

"...Wedgwood Majolica continued until 1910... The story did not end there, however, for as late as 1947 a Wedgwood Catalogue offered 'Colored Vine & Strawberry' plates."

Victoria Bergesen, Majolica: British, Continental and American Wares, 1851-1915. London: Barrie & Jenkins Publishers, 1989, p. 52.

Wedgwood Majolica Pattern Books from the Wedgwood Archive reprinted in Bergesen, pp. 182-201.
