George Jones Majolica Turquoise Oyster Server, English, ca. 1874
George Jones Majolica 10-ins turquoise eight-well oyster server, English, ca. 1874, the turquoise wells separated by seaweed, with a yellow-glazed border, with a raised naturalistic oyster shell glazed in white, with pink glazed border, the reverse with tortoiseshell mottling, impressed marks to reverse, 'GJ' monogram, British Registry Diamond for 15 September 1874, and black painted design number to thumbprint reserve '3301' which corresponds to 'Oyster Plate, turq gr. [ground], pink shell centre' in the George Jones Majolica Pattern Books in the Wedgwood Archives.
The design came in three sizes, this being the largest.
In excellent antique condition, with no damage, repair, or restoration.
For over 30 years we have been among the preeminent specialists in fine antique majolica.
