Gucci Bamboo Vintage 1947 Black Leather Large Top Handle Bag, 1980. First introduced in the early 1940's, the Gucci bamboo bag came into production as materials around Europe became scarce. Bamboo, which could still be abundantly sourced from Japan, was used under the influence of heat by Gucci craftsmen in a way that would retain its shape once positioned to the bag. During the post war era of the 1950's, the "1947" bag gained overnight international recognition in the film "Viaggio in Italia" where Ingrid Bergman famously wore the classic silhouette for the very time. Since it's debut, the 1947 bag has been reinvented in a variety of sizes, colorations and textiles by every creative director of the fashion house. Most recently in the Fall/Winter of 2022, creative director Alessandro Michele re-released the "1947" bag, reigniting the demand for the classic silhouette that catapulted Gucci to fame.
This particular piece of Gucci history was assembled during the brands height in the 1980's by skilled Gucci craftsmen in the largest size variation which is no longer in production. Handcrafted in Italy to the highest luxury standards, this 1947 bag is made out of 140 pieces in a rich smooth black calfskin leather with brushed gold hardware and matching interior. The bamboo turn-lock closure opens to a large interior pocket with expandable sides and one slip, zip and snap pocket to house all of your day to night essentials. In good pre-owned condition with signs of wear to exterior leather including small scratching and wear to corners and bamboo handle. Interior also shows light pressmarks and some signs of wear. Signs of wear to exterior including light press marks, small scratch marks to side of bag and rubbing to corners. Bamboo handle shows light scratching and smudging that is minimal with hardware showing some scratches as well. Interior presents pressmarks to underside of flap and some wear to leather. Comes with certification of authentication, care card and original store tag.
